Why Does Stress Cause Tinnitus?

Most of the time, when people have tinnitus, it is caused by a larger problem. In many cases, that problem is high anxiety. When a person is under extreme stress, a part of the brain known as the hypothalamus is affected. This part of the brain is unable to produce the chemicals that the body needs, throwing it off balance. When this happens, many people find that they also end up with tinnitus.
